Flash Fiction for the Purposeful Practitioner – Week 39

Roger Shipp hosts Flash Fiction for the Purposeful Practitioner.  He states, “… This is a weekly writing challenge designed for both the flash fiction newbie and the more experienced writer. It is the desire of this challenge to allow writers the opportunity to clear the cobwebs from a more tedious and involved project. Becoming a part of a new and growing writer’s community might be just what the doctor ordered to rejuvenate your writing juices.

I reckon I’d be in a heap of trouble if anyone found out what I’m doing. I hear tell that I could get locked up for doing what my daddy wanted. I’ll be darned if I am going to follow any government rules. I’d ruther die than put Daddy’s ashes in the ground. I owe him better ‘en that. Ma trusts me with this chore.

This is the perfect spot. People fishin’ in these parts are scarce as hen’s teeth. My daddy fished all his life. He loved the water morin’ he loved us kids. He kept us all fed and clothed, so I’m glad for that. I’m fixin’ to do what I gotta do. I’ll open the thermos, spill out his dust, and say my proper goodbyes’.

When I go, I wanna be spread in the garden behind the house. The vittles will grow, and everyone will be eatin’ my dust.
