5 Things Challenge – Games – 5 + 5

Dr. Tanya is our host for 5 Things Challenge. Today she says:
“To relieve the tedium and reduce screen time the good old board games are still there. Today I am going to list 5 of my favorites and will ask you to do the same.”

This is a fun topic to me. There are more than five possibilities depending on who I am playing with. My daughters, when they were young used to love to play Parcheesi. I looked for it when my grandkids came along, and was unable to find it. Now they are passed the age to enjoy it, I think. Image from Amazon

Another kid favorite was Chutes and Ladders. Both my kids and grandkids loved this one.

Tic Tac Toes has been a favorite for all. It’s usually the first go to game for Z3.

Sequence for kids was a favorite when the grands were little.

Hungry Hungry Hippos was a loud and fun game to play with the young ones.

As an adult, I still like board games.

Sequence was my favorite board game for years. I’ve played it with adults, teens, and kids. I’ve gifted the game numerous times. It is such a blast, as long as the players are not too competitive.

Scrabble is another multi-aged great game. As long as the players are not too competitive.

I’ve had many versions of Monopoly. I tend to like the basic one the best. A long, but great game, as long as the players are not too competitive.

Pictionary is great with a variety of different ages.

Checkers can be played with a variety of different ages too. When the grands are sometimes the winner and sometimes the loser, it makes for a fun game.

Day 288 – LSS Attitude of Gratitude – Too Hot For Comfort – There is always something to be grateful for.

Not much was accomplished today, it was too darn hot. I was outside before 6:30 sanding the handles of my outside tools. Then I used the plastic wood fill to make the handles smooth. Sanding again and then painting completed my morning job. Z3 woke up and wanted to play with the dog for awhile. She was happy for the entertainment. I put away some things outside and then came in and made breakfast for Z3. I kept asking him if he ws hungry but not until 9:30 was he willing to eat.

After breakfast we started another marathon of Sequence games. At last count it was four to three. We had a good time. My spouse got up and went to his district to get his laptop for work. I don’t get a laptop from school this year because I am not returning. Last night there was an all call from school. It was an alert to everyone that school is starting school. I need to find out how to opt out of the school calls.

When my spouse returned we all decided it was just too hot to go out anywhere. Z3 wanted to play in the wading pool and it seemed like a great idea. I went out with him and kept him company while putting away my tools from the morning. The pool was the only cool place outside. The air was on all day. It reached 99 or 100 today depending on which forecast you believe.

An easy lunch, more board games, and lots of popsicles filled our day. More time in the pool, a cool dinner, and more board games filled the afternoon and evening. It took until 8:00 for the temperature to be low enough to open the windows and turn off the AC. Now it is movie time. Tonight we are watching ROBOTS. It is another good choice. Hopefully tomorrow will not be so miserable. I am grateful for out visit with Z3, for the AC in the house, for the wading pool with cool water, and for hope of cooler days ahead.

Day 280 – LSS Attitude of Gratitude – More Got Done – There is always something to be grateful for.

This morning began early as usual.  I accomplished a few chores before the others woke up. K2 had worked on a few S&P shelves yesterday and wanted to continue today. We started however in the back yard. Z2 hosed off another of the outdoor rugs. My spouse and I rehung the outside decorations to the fence I painted yesterday. Then Z2 painted the top row of the block wall planter in the lower yard. It was a busy morning. After they finished I worked on painting and cleaning up. We had a simple breakfast as today was Taco Tuesday and everyone should be hungry to go to Taco Tuesday.

We all headed off to a pedicure. I still get a little catch when I get pedicures. It was  a favorite thing to do with my mom. My mom started treating herself to pedicures once we had long conversations about accepting care for things we can’t do ourselves.     Poor Z2 had an inflamed toenail. She admitted it had been hurting her for weeks. The manicurist was very careful with her. After finishing there we went off to Taco Tuesday. The place was packed as usual.  Z2 was happy to be able to pick her own fillings. She ate as much as we did, or more. She wanted her Krispy Kreme to go.  I told her I was happy that she didn’t overdo it.

After lunch we returned home and I opted for a quick nap. I had worked 2 1/2 hours before anyone else woke up. Z2 worked on the S&P shelves while I napped. I asked why and she said she was bored. When I woke, it was off to my acupuncture doctor. I haven’t been for a full appointment in forever. It felt amazing to be able to relax with needles and a tens unit pulsating in my body.

When I returned home, Z2 and I played beach Monopoly, aka Beachopoly. She stomped me. LOL She was having such a good time. Then she and I continued to work on my shelves. I am so grateful she wants to earn some money and I get help with my chores. We didn’t finish the last few. I am sure they will still be there tomorrow.

She finally was hungry and asked for dinner. We ate leftovers. We get our new fridge tomorrow and need to get rid of as much stuff as we can. While eating we talked about the retreat in the fall, the options for recreation, and food preferences. She was very intrigued by the idea of the float. We had such pleasant conversations again. I am grateful for this one kid at a time scenario. I am beyond exhausted now and I will be ever so grateful if a sleep for a few good hours this evening.
