Sometimes I’m sure my doctor thinks, that on her patience I put a drain.
Before my visit I send four emails on the patient portal, even though it causes me great eyestrain.
After all these years, G-d only knows what my files must contain.
I need to discuss my current issues, and the treatments that might pertain.
The short appointment time allotted can cause me to complain.
There is just too much information that I need to attain.
I waste no time and never ask a question unless it is germane.
I have no desire to come back again so instead I will remain.
I am eager to absorb the information I realize I need to gain.
She reviews her computer notes before she begins to explain.
There are two doctors, two PTs, and an OT appointment I will need to obtain.
I never want a doctor’s visit to be a waste or in vain.
But when meds are offered to me, my first response is to refrain.
Sometimes, I have no choice and must follow her ordain.
I am my own advocate, as I try to lesson my pain.
This is insane!

Great poem Lauren. You do well too go well prepared. Asking questions is your right and getting answers too.

She made a remark about the 4 emails. There are limited spaces and I wanted to include all my current meds as well as current concerns. I was grateful she went double the allotted time.

It’s okay to voice your concerns. I usually have a written list of things I want to discuss.

I sent it to her as well as to myself on email. That way I wouldn’t forget anything.

This made me chuckle, as did some other lines… I hope your physical went as well as could be expected, Lauren.
Much love ❤

Thank for getting it David. My attempt at humor and reality. The visit went quite well and the doc took twice the allotted time to get through all my issues. Now I get to set up appointments.

Ah modern medicine. Organized, efficient, pain management ? It all depends on the way one is looking at it. Let us not leave out the affects of COVID. Sometimes not so much…

I was happy she gave me double the allotted time. I am grateful for the PT and OT referrals. This HMO crud has way more hoops to jump through than my old plan.

It was OK actually. She gave me double the allotted time and hopefully I can follow up with the other docs soon.
