Who Am I?
For dVerse Open Link Night 293

I am not a daughter or granddaughter, in my opinion
Because my ancestors have left this realm

Because I believe in spirituality over organized religion

I am a cultural Jew, in my opinion
Because I am forever tied to my ancestors but not their laws

I am not a teacher, in my opinion
Because I retired after a long joyful career

I am a student, in my opinion
Because I am always trying to learn new things

I am not a poet, in my opinion
Because I have no where near the talent of others

I am a person who enjoys writing, in my opinion
Because I write what I feel

I am not a seamstress, in my opinion
Because I strive for joy but not perfection

I am a sewer, in my opinion
Because I enjoy making home furnishings, quilts, and presents

I am not a photographer, in my opinion
because I like what I like regardless of “rules”

I am an observer of my world, in my opinion
Because I like to take shots of the things that make me happy

I am not techie, in my opinion
because I must get help from others to do some basic things

I am learning more about technology, in my opinion
Because I bought myself an iPad for my birthday

I am not a chief, in my opinion
Because I’d rather not follow directions exactly

I am a creative cook, in my opinion
Because I can take basic ingredients and make something yummy

I am not a popular person, in my opinion
Because I have had few close friends throughout my life

I am a good friend, in my opinion
Because I care deeply for others

I am not physically healthy, in my opinion
Because my list of ailments is long

I am doing the best I can with what I have, in my opinion
Because I have no desire to give up

I have not lived a normal life, in my opinion
Because I have had some experiences no one should have

I have lived four lifetimes this trip on Earth, in my opinion
Because changes I have experienced have transformed me

I am ME
a happy
grateful
loving
caring
creative
work in progress

  1. Lauren, it sounds like a mission statement for your life and a detailed context of where you find yourself within that mission statement. I like the format and your openness.

  2. Ah that question as old as the ages, “Who am I?” never ceases to inform me, mold me, reveal me, throughout the lifetimes. Never stop asking yourself and listening to yourself on that one. ~peace, Jason

  3. Well written Lauran! I celebrate the veracity and power of your words. May you continue always sharing only your authentic self — that alone makes you genuine, meaningful to read, and of worth to be heard! Síocháin!
