He promised if I followed all his strange cult rules my life would be amazing beyond my wildest dreams. I would know nothing but peace. I was so gullible, I bought into the hype. I so wanted to believe that his lies were not filled with deceit. I wanted to know that I had a purpose on this journey here on Earth. He told us all that we were nothing without him. I struggled until I could bear it no more. I prefer keeping in mind even the possibility that existence has its own reason for being.
Written for Merril’s Prosery which asks us to utilize the line “I prefer keeping in mind even the possibility that existence has its own reason for being.” from the poem ‘Possibilities’ by Wisława Szymborska into a short prose piece of 144 words or less.
Also written for Di’s Three Things Challenge.
Well done Lauren

Thanks for the inclusion. I knew of a company that would thrive on people’s insecurities, saying they could only get by in this world with their merchandise and following their ways. Some people lost tens of thousands of pounds, even their homes. I’m glad to say in answer to their question who would I like to be, I replied myself, and the second what job would I like to do, my response was the one I was currently doing (and I loved it), they were more than a little surprised and left me alone.

Good for you. It is sad when people take advantage of others.

They made a documentary about it if I remember correctly, but this was over thirty years ago now.

Nicely done. It’s sad to think of people becoming members of a cult, and yet, it seems to be happening all the time.

Sadly, many people are lost and cults offer the promise of loving friends.

True. It amazes me how many people don’t know the Kool-Aid reference.

Some cult leader told me this for an year until I dumped him and realised my existence was for myself and not some balding old conman.
